A convoy of black SUV’s rolled into Bragg Creek this morning.
They were all part of a tour providing Alison Redford a first hand look at the damage done in the wake of the flood.
Joined by local politicians she found the devastation in the town to be extensive.
The force of the river as it wound its way through the mountainside town was so strong that it ate its way through the first floor of a riverside home.
As a result of the flooding, the river’s path has now forever been moved approximately 100-feet.
Premier Alison Redford is pledging to stand behind the community.
“There are people who have lived in Bragg Creek for generations. Perhaps sometimes people in Calgary make the assumption there are a bunch of people from the city who own cabins in the community and that isn’t the case, this is a community,” says Redford.
Reeve Roland Ashdown says it was nice to see the Premier come out in person and promise to reduce the red tape.
“We’re looking forward to that, the county has been working with the people in the area and the community leaders have been doing a spectacular job,” says Ashdown.
Home owners who are looking for flood relief are asked to get the process started by filing their papers in Calgary.
