Owner of Edmonton based gore website charged in connection to Magnotta case

Police have charged the owner of an Edmonton gore website for carrying a grisly video at the centre of the Luka Magnotta murder case.

Mark Marek, 38, who operates www.bestgore.com, faces one count of corrupting morals.

Section 163 of the criminal code defines corrupting morals as “knowingly selling or exposing to public view” any obscene thing.

Police allege Merek knew the video sent to him depicted a real killing when he posted it online.

Staff Sgt. Bill Clark says this investigation took quite some time.

Clark says investigators contacted several agencies to locate Marek but still have no fixed address for the 38 year-old.

“He travels all over and we do know that he updates that website on a regular basis, it’s one of the more active ones of all the websites he has,” says Clark.

He says police had to determine whether Marek posted the video willingly online, while in Canada and that he was in fact the owner of website to face the charge.

Clark says, “I’ve never heard of that charge before, I know talking to the Crowns they hadn’t heard of that charge, I believe this may be the first time it’s ever been laid in Edmonton.”

Marek is to set to appear in court on Thursday.

Magnotta is to stand trial in September for the murder and dismemberment of university student Jun Lin.

Parts of Lin’s body were mailed across Canada in a gruesome killing that made headlines around the world.
