Alberta’s Auditor General says he kept quiet on a problem that put public information at risk to avoid alerting hackers.
Merwan Saher says he red-flagged the province’s computerized traffic ticket system last year, worried people’s confidential personal information could be accessed.
According to The Calgary Herald, data like driver’s license numbers, names, addresses, and dates of birth were not protected adequately enough.
Officials say there’s no evidence the private information was breached.
Saher adds the system is now secure.
