The Red Cross has raised $25.3Million in cash and in-kind donations since the flooding first hit.
Thursday morning, the group outlined plans to rebuild transition and get Southern Albertans back on its feet.
Officials are promising full and complete transparency, they’ve even set up a hotline number for anyone in need of assistance 1-866-696-6484.
The Red Cross response has been set up in three phases; relief, transition and then recovery. Officials believe most of the areas impacted by the flood are in the transition stage. That could include anything from transportation to child care to clothes.
After that they will meet with clients in the recovery stage on a case by case basis to see who needs help with rent, mortgage and household goods.
“We hope through that plan the most vulnerable will be looked after. Which is a population we want to make sure gets a lion’s share of whatever we have here,” says Director General of Disaster Management John Byrne.
The Red Cross will not put a dollar figure on the cost but say the effort could last two years.
