City no longer fighting flood hazard maps

The city has dropped its bid to fight the province’s flood hazard maps.
Originally Mayor Naheed Nenshi, along with Wildrose Politicians, protested the use of the maps, arguing they were based on data from 1983 and 1996.
Nenshi now says he is satisfied with the rationale he has heard from the province.
Nenshi is hopeful the new rules won’t make developers and homeowners pay unnecessary costs for flood mitigation already covered by Alberta government.
He says work already completed in Inglewood and East Village, including berms and elevated ground levels, will help homes qualify for future disaster assistance.
