Calgary police release photos of suspects in extortion series targeting South Asian community

Calgary police releasing pictures and names of several suspects wanted in connection with a series of extortion attempts against members of the South Asian community. Phoenix Phillips reports.

Calgary police have released photos and names of several people accused in a long‑running extortion series targeting the city’s South Asian community.

Police say the images are being shared to generate more tips from the public as investigators continue working to identify offenders and prevent further violence.

“Let me be very clear, we will not stop until everyone involved in these series of crimes is identified and held accountable,” says CPS Supt. Jeff Bell.

There have been 49 extortion‑related incidents in Calgary since April 2025, according to police, including 19 shootings involving both victims and suspects. Sixteen people have been charged with 56 offences linked to the investigation.

Bell says the city saw nine extortion-related shooting in the first 60 days of this year. He says police have made 16 arrests, but only one person remains in custody.

Investigators caution that some of the charged individuals may be known in the community by different names, and they believe people may have encountered them without realizing it.

“We see that they have a name they are known by in the community, they have nicknames, they have legal documents from different countries and Canada,” says Bell. “They could conceivably have multiple names they are never known from.”

“At one point a roomate didn’t even know the legal name of someone we were talking about until we showed a photo.”

A full list of the photos and names released can be found here.

Police note they are still trying to locate Germanjeet Singh, who is wanted on warrants related to an extortion case, and are seeking help identifying suspects and vehicles in two other incidents in Cityscape and Saddle Ridge.

Anyone with information about the incidents or those involved is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
