Calgary population experiences second largest increase in two decades

The City of Calgary released its 2013 census results Thursday.
The population has reached nearly 1.15 million people, recording a growth over the last year of roughly 29,300.
That growth represents the second-largest annual increase in the last 20 years.
Roughly 19,000 of those citizens migrated with the remaining 10,000 due to natural increase or the number of births over deaths.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi said the numbers mean Calgary is now in a sustained period of growth.
“We’re not quite at where we were at the height of the last boom, but we’re actually not that far,” he said.
The largest areas of growth are once again on the city’s outer fringes, as Auburn Bay, Cranston, and Skyview Ranch each grew by about 1,600 people.
At 23,600 people, the northside community of Panorama Hills is Calgary’s largest neighbourhood.
