Good Samaritan pays it forward at Chestermere Tim Hortons

After separate incidents in Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa, the free coffee craze found it’s way to a Chestermere Tim Hortons and another store in the downtown core Friday morning.
Chestermere Store Manager Valerie Bruce tells 660News a regular customer walked in and decided he wanted to pay it forward and bought the next 500 cups of coffee.
“It’s just great, people with big hearts that want to see smiles on other peoples faces,” she said. “This person just said I want people to have a great weekend.”
The customer asked to remain anonymous and paid the nearly $900 tab by credit card before leaving.
Owner of the Chestermere store Andrew Marriott said he’s never seen anything quite like this in his career.
“I think the record we did have was about 13 or 14 cars in a row where we had the guests pay for the next car,” he explained. “Our guests on a regular basis do pay it forward in the drive-thru, it’s nice to see.”
Blair is a regular customer and had stopped into purchase 3 coffees.
“I think it’s a great idea, it starts your weekend off great,” he said. “I kind of feel a little guilty, I should have bought a couple of donuts or something.”
“It’s very generous, I think more people should do it,” said another woman.
It took the store a little more than two hours to dole out 500 free cups of coffee.
