Parks Canada officials are restricting some areas in Banff because of bears.
As of Thursday until the end of September, access will be restricted for Allenby Pass.
Anyone planning to hike there must receive a special permit with a minimum group size of four.
Officials want to minimize displacement of grizzly bears feeding on fish in the area.
In the past, hikers have surprised bears and have been seriously injured.
The higher-route trail to Assiniboine Pass, the Og Pass trail and the Highline trail from Og to Allenby Pass, will also be closed to users during this restricted access.
Special permits can be obtained by contacting the Banff information centre.
