SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The proposed Energy East pipeline will be an achievement for all Canadians…according to the president of the project.
Stefan Pohlod celebrated news of TransCanada proceeding with its’ west-east pipeline project yesterday in Saint John at the Irving Oil refinery.
He says the open season for commitment to the project yielded strong market support for the pipeline.
“In fact, interest was strong enough to exceed the 850,000 barrel a day capacity of the project that we initially proposed. The transportation capacity of the new pipeline will be approximately 1.1-million barrels a day.”
The project will include a $330-million deep water marine terminal that will export a large majority of the Alberta crude oil sent to Saint John.
The pipeline is expected to be in place by 2018.
