Prosecutors are appealing a 90-day sentence handed down to Joffrey Reynolds, an ex-Stampeder who assaulted his former girlfriend.
According to the Calgary Herald, the Crown is now seeking two to three years of jail time for Reynolds.
They argued the sentence handed down last May “did not fit the gravity of the offences and the circumstance of the offender.”
Reynolds was placed on probation for two years, prohibited from owning firearms for 10 years, and required to write an apology letter to the victim.
He was also ordered to make a $5,000 donation to the Calgary Women’s Emergency Centre by March 25, 2015.
