Strathmore standoff ends peacefully

RCMP negotiators were able to convince an armed man to surrender after a nearly seven hour long stand-off in Strathmore, Sunday.
The incident stems from a call to police by a woman at 1:30 Sunday morning.
It escalated at around 8 a.m. when officers surrounded the home on Wheatland Trail to execute a warrant at which point the suspect uttered threats and a weapon was produced.
Nearby streets were then blocked off as Mounties secured the area.
The incident ended just before 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
RCMP Sergeant Patricia Neely says the female victim was able to escape the home prior to the standoff.
“Mounties are still working with the victim at the Strathmore detachment to determine exactly what occurred,” says Neely.
Neely says the incident is not domestically related, but the suspect is known to police.
Charges are pending.
