Bauer, Hockey Canada donating to flood-victims

Many young hockey players in Alberta fell victim to the devastating June flooding, losing everything, and making the upcoming season seem impossible.

A Canadian hockey foundation and an equipment maker are teaming up so kids don’t have to be side-lined for a minor hockey season.

Hockey Canada is pledging $250,000 to be used for enrollment fees for families with young players affected by the flood, and Bauer Hockey is donating $150,000 worth of gear.

The company isn’t sure exactly what form their donation will take, and are considering outfitting teams with jerseys and providing players with head-to-toe gear.

Kevin Morris, the President of the Bow River Bruins Hockey Association, tells The Calgary Herald High River is in desperate need right now; he says they’re short for about 200 players.

Morris has also taken it upon himself to start an equipment drive for the town, one of the hardest hit areas in the province by the flood.

The generosity doesn’t end there; Bauer will also donate about $20,000 and about five per cent of all Calgary sales this month to the Red Cross’ Alberta flood relief fund.
