A former FOB enforcer and confessed killer has been given an immunity deal and is turning against his former crew in the deaths of three people.
Hans Eastgaard has been widely seen as a leader in some circles, and has long been on police radar.
The 37-year-old made the agreement as part of ‘Operation Desino’ and will testify in the deaths of Kevin Anaya, Kevin Ses and Tina Kong.
Anaya was killed outside a home on Marcombe Drive in the northeast on August 8th 2008.
He wasn’t a gang member, but had friends in both the FOB and the FOB Killers.
Police have charged four FOB veterans with first degree murder in the shooting: Nicholas Chan, Timothy Chan, Nathan Zuccherato and Dustin Darby.
Two months later, Ses and Kong were gunned down in the Food in East Restaurant in Marlborough.
Ses was associated with an FK gang member, but Kong had no connections to any criminal activity.
“I can’t say I’m entirely happy with (the deal),” Crown Counsel Brian Holtby tells The Calgary Sun. “I think our goal is to see that complete justice is done and full justice is done, in this case… it’s not going to happen.”
Holtby says there wouldn’t have been any charges laid in the murders had there been no agreement.
According to the prosecutor, there will be no charges laid against Eastgaard as long as he fulfills his part of the deal.
His testimony will also be used in the matter of two attempted killings.
“He was in a very difficult position – all his life he would be worried he (would be) charged with the murders and whether someone else would come forward, the choice was to cooperate with police,” says Holtby.
It’s the second deal in as many months from the Crown prosecutor’s office, after Michael Roberto agreed to testify in four slayings, including the shootings at the Bolsa Restaurant.
Eastgaard is currently serving a sentence for weapons offences.
