Police are keeping tight lipped about charges laid against a former Arson Investigator and member of the Calgary Fire Department.
An internal investigation revealed 48-year-old Andrew Strack might have lied while under oath in court in January 2013 year; Strack is facing a charge of perjury.
Because the case is before the courts, Acting Inspector, Ryan Ayliffe, with the CPS Major Crimes Section says, police can’t say much.
“The one piece of this I can shed some light on is, this perjury charge stems from his testimony concerning him being qualified as an expert in court, so it did not impact the outcome of the case,” says Ayliffe.
A charge of perjury is under section 131 of the Criminal Code and carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.
