A Calgary ringette coach will serve 18 months behind bars for sexually abusing a young player.
Kelsea Joy Hepburn was convicted on charges of sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching — for the then-21 year old’s inappropriate relationship with a 13 year old girl.
The Calgary Sun reports, Hepburn’s defense was seeking a 45-90 day sentence.
A judge said such a sentence would trivialize the victim’s struggles — and leave a false impression that it wasn’t a big deal, which it was.
Hepburn will also serve two years of probation, and must get sex offender treatment.
