A Calgary Police pilot program targeting domestic violence is expanding across the city.
The Domestic Conflict Response Team will now be covering communities across Calgary after beginning as a northeast program in 2009.
Since its inception, the D.C.R.T. has connected with over 600 families and have seen a 91 per cent success rate in ending physical violence in the home.
Each year, the CPS receives over 16,000 domestic violence related calls and while the term ‘domestic violence’ is broad, each and every call is taken seriously.
The team is made up of police officers – eight constables and one Sergeant, members of Homefront, Alberta Health Services and Closer to Home.
The partnership aims to intervene in high risk domestic violence cases, and offer assistance before the courts have to get involved.
