The next royal trio of the Calgary Stampede have been crowned, complete with cowgirl hats and all.
The 2014 princesses are Shannon Black and Stephanie Patterson.
22-year-old Danica Heath has taken the crown as queen and will lead the royals over a busy year, acting as official ambassadors for the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.
Patterson said the judging process, which started in September, was quite nerve racking.
“You start off with an initial mixer where all the girls have to go into a room and talk to the judges and that’s one of the scariest things I’ve ever done, because you just have to walk in and talk,” said Patterson.
There were also riding competitions and plenty more interviews over the next weeks to narrow down the winners.
The final three were chosen based on how much they embody the Calgary Stampede values of integrity as well as western hospitality and commitment to the community.
Besides a crown and sash, the royals also receive custom designed saddles and belt buckles, all coming in at a value of eight-thousand-dollars.
The three will make more than 400 appearances over the next year.
