Rutherford To The Rescue

He doesn’t officially start on 660News until Monday, but veteran broadcaster Dave Rutherford is already making news.

Rutherford helped pull the driver from a burning truck after it went off Deerfoot Trail near 32nd Avenue and McKnight Boulevard shortly before noon Friday.
It ended up on the Fox Hollow Golf Course.

He tells 660News, he and another witness pulled over to help, but the driver of the truck wasn’t very co-operative.

“The wheels were ripped off, it was all smashed up and it was basically on fire!” says Rutherford. “The guy was sitting at the wheel, and I thought he was in shock from the crash, but I think he might have been on something too. He was pretty wired.  There was me and a fire captain who was there, and we dragged this guy out on the passenger side to get him out of there. He did not want to go.”

The driver was taken away by police and checked out by EMS.  Police say it appears he was having some kind of medical attack at the time of the crash.

Rutherford says another witness told him the truck had been speeding and swerving in and out of traffic just before it went off the road.
