High risk sex offender found in U.S.

A violent, high risk sex offender who had been on the loose in Alberta, has been found.

However, he’s not in custody.

Canadian authorities cannot arrest Michael Sean Stanley because he is not facing any charges in the United States and is an American citizen.

Edmonton Police are not saying exactly where in the U.S. Stanley is at the moment.

Detective Chris Hayduk says, it’s also unclear why he wasn’t stopped by border officials.

“EPS detectives were able to confirm with U.S. Customs and Border Protection that Stanley crossed from British Columbia into Washington state, at the Blane border crossing on the evening of October 7th,” he says.

Canadian officials would have to go through a lengthy extradition process to get him returned to Alberta to face charges related to breach of release conditions.

Stanley has been missing since October 1st, when the electronic tracking bracelet he was wearing was found in Lloydminster.

He has been the subject of a Canada-wide search and has a long history of sexual offences against women and children.
