Approximately 2,000 people participated in the 23rd annual Memory Walk and Run raising money for the Alzheimer Society of Calgary.
Last year, they raised over $250,000 and this year, their goal is $300,000.
Jill Petrovic with the organization says, 13,000 people in Calgary suffer with dementia and for everyone diagnosed, there are many more that are not.
“More and more people are getting diagnosed. Our society is aging. Anybody can tell you a story about a friend, a co-worker, a neighbour a family member whose been impacted by dementia”
She adds the event is for awareness, education, community and of course, funds raised.
If everything goes well, this year’s fundraiser will be a walk to remember.
