Province mulls over flood mitigation plan

We’re starting to get a look at what flood mitigation ideas are being tossed around.

The province has a number of things being proposed, some of which Mayor Nenshi says at first glance, he thought sounded like science fiction.

One of those ideas is a five kilometre tunnel that would divert water from the north end of Glenmore Reservoir and empty it into the Bow River at the south end of the city.

A similar plan could be put in place to divert water from the Highwood River near High River.

The cost of both of those projects together could hit $400M according to The Globe and Mail.

A spokesperson for the Calgary River Communities Action Group says that’s still far less than cleaning up after another flood.
