Conviction in Calgary teen’s murder overturned

The Alberta Court of Appeal has awarded a new trial to the accused killer of Calgary teen Adam Cavanaugh.

“M.M.”, who was only 17 at the time of the offence, had his first degree murder conviction thrown out, a judge saying it was concerning that bad character evidence was used to determine the ruling.

Cavanaugh was shot in the head through a basement window in February of 2007.

M.M. maintains he was not the shooter, naming Salim Kaddoura as the culprit.

Kaddoura initially fled the country before being arrested earlier this year in Toronto.

He’s charged with conspiracy to commit murder after the fact and manslaughter.
