Three dead after crash in S.W.

Three people are dead and one person is fighting for their life in hospital after a crash in the city’s southwest.

It happened just before 8p.m. Wednesday, at the intersection of 17th Avenue and 37th Street S.W.

Police believe it all began with a westbound Dodge Neon; somehow it crossed the centre line, colliding with a Jeep SUV.

All four women escaped the Jeep and were treated for their injuries.

Two passengers in the Neon, a man and a woman, were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third man died en route to hospital.

The driver of the car is still in critical condition.

Police believe alcohol was to blame, but are still interviewing witnesses and looking at the toxicology report.

Duty Staff Sgt. Paul Wozney tells 660News, sometimes it feels like they’re banging their heads up against the wall, with all the educational campaigns against drinking and driving.

Neighbours like Ruby are also frustrated.

“I hope that people can get the message, because there’s a lot of crashes, and a lot of dying,” she says.
