Another big snowfall for Calgary

For the second weekend in a row, it looks like we’re in for another big snowfall.   However, this time, it might just stick around!

Up to 20 cm are expected for the city Saturday and Sunday with possibly higher amounts along the foothills and in the mountains.

Environment Canada meteorologist Jonathan Bau tells 660News, this one should bring in a lot of the white stuff to Calgary but possibly rain further south.

“Anywhere from 10 to 20 cm in the Calgary and surround areas, we’re thinking the mountains could see potential higher amounts.  We were concerned with a little bit of freezing rain this morning but it appears most of the temperatures are staying above zero with a little bit of a southwest wind along the foothills,” says Bau.

He says they expect the snow to start in Calgary sometime Saturday morning and get heavier into the afternoon and into Sunday.

“It’s looking like it will perhaps start with a little bit of wet snow but it should transition over to the fluffier stuff. The thing is, the winds aren’t particularly strong right now, so that’s the reason why we haven’t issued any warnings or indications in regards to blowing snow,” he says.
