RCMP checkstop blitz

Police are casting a wider net to catch impaired drivers this weekend.

RCMP is launching a massive Checkstop blitz throughout the province.

They’ll be teaming up with city police and Alberta Sheriffs to staff nearly 160 Checkstops on the major roadways.

Superintendent of Alberta’s Traffic Services, Howard Eaton tells 660News it’s a wrap up of the national safe driving week.

“To try and enhance the message of impaired driving and to demonstrate that we will be out in full force over the Christmas season,” he says.

In some cases, they’ll be moving around with mobile stops throughout the day Saturday and into Sunday morning.
