Growing business a priority in 2014

A recent survey by American Express has found a majority of small business owners in Calgary are looking to fatten their bottom line in the coming year.

The Vice President and General Manager of Small Business Services with American Express, Athena Varmazis says she’s not surprised because Calgary’s economy is strong so confident levels are riding relatively high.

“Calgary had really positive views, some of the lowest stress levels when it comes to their businesses; it could mean that they feel they are in a good stable place, it could mean they are achieving the steady state and they don’t need to put a heightened focus on growth,” she says.

Varmazis says a priority among business owners across the country is to get a better handle on the work/life balance for both themselves and their employees.
