Scouts Canada welcomes changes to American counterparts

The Scouts of America aren’t just changing calendars, they’re changing policy too.

Starting January 1ST, 2014 they will allow gay youth in to the organization.

Scouts Canada’s John Petiti told 660News the group north of the border never had to deal with the controversy because everyone has always been allowed.

“We certainly support it, we embrace it. There’s no question, Scouts Canada is a high diverse and an inclusive organization,” said Petiti. “We welcome all members regardless of gender, race, culture, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or economic circumstance so we’re certainly pleased with any other organization that adapts such an approach.”

Petiti said the Canadian organization and the Scouts of America are different entities with separate rules.

He say the biggest difference between them now might be the inclusion of girls in all age groups north of the 49th parallel.
