Albertans can now get expert advice from poison and drug specialists, including registered dietitians by calling Health Link Alberta.
Melissa Milton, clinical manager for Health Link Alberta, tells 660News, callers with complex questions will have an assessment done by a registered nurse and if the nurse feels they need more help, they will be transferred to a specialist.
“The nutrition service for example, if parents have questions about their toddlers eating habits, they have any allergies or they want to talk about supplements and for poison and drug information, if they have any questions about medication; “I’m pregnant and I want to take some medication can I?” Those are the specialists that would be able to provide them with those responses,” said Milton.
Both services are expected to provide better access to specialized information to the nearly 10-Million Albertans who have called the line since it opened in 2000.
In 2013, over 950,000 people called Health Link Alberta with questions.
