Telus Spark launches Meet The Innovators series

Saturday at Telus Spark, local storm chaser Tremaine Lea is the guest speaker as the science center launches its Meet the Innovators series.
“We’re working to connect our visitors with local innovators who are doing really neat things in our community and our greater area,” Telus Spark spokesperson Megan Douglas tells 660News. “Tremaine is actually a Southern Albertan who has a passion for chasing some of our most powerful storms. And his drive behind his passion is to capture some amazing photography of the fury of nature in our own backyard.”
“He’ll often capture photography ranging from some of the really powerful thunder and lightning storms that we get,” Douglas continues, “as well as a lot of our snow storms and the whole traverse nature of what we have as weather phenomena here in Alberta.”
Storm chasers, of course, are more prevalent in the United States and for good reason.
“(It’s) one of those scenarios where you don’t really picture it happening regularly in Alberta,” notes Douglas. “It’s something that you sort of think of when you think of tornado alley down in the United States. But in fact we actually have a really powerful group of chasers here in Alberta that collect things like Tremaine does in terms of photography, and also a lot of data to map a lot of the storm systems that pass through our own backyard.”
Saturday’s presentation and exhibit begins at 2 p.m. and it’s free as part of your admission to Telus Spark.
