A protest for an overseas conflict will hit Calgary Sunday afternoon.
A group will arrive at Olympic Plaza at 4:00 p.m. draped in blue and yellow to show their support for the ongoing political struggle in Ukraine.
Rallies in that country have turned violent as harsh new laws try to quell anti-government sentiments.
Michael Hantzsch with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress said they want to convince every MP in the country to impose sanctions on the Ukrainian government.
“Hit them where it hurts, hit them in their pocketbooks and limit their travel,” Hantzsch said. “That’s our effort in this rally, show support, a lot of this will be filmed and it actually gets back to those in the front lines of the protests in Ukraine.”
He worries democracy is losing hold in the country and Ukraine could be going back to a time where they were controlled by the Soviet state.
