Snow and ice dominate city council

The plan is working, but there are improvements to be made.
That was the main message from snow removal and roads maintenance officials at Calgary City Council on Monday.
While presenting a report on snow-clearing efforts this winter, Roads Director Ryan Jestin, said crews had to deal with record snowfall in December alone.
There was 52.4 centimeters recorded last month, which is 3.5 times the normal amount.
Jestin said this has been an especially difficult year in terms of snowfall, but his team will continue to get the job done.
“I’ve driven almost all of these roads myself. I’ve got a low-clearance car, and the bottom line is you can get up and down them. You should be traveling very slow to make sure you avoid ruts and sharp drop-offs,” said Jestin.
Jestin also reminds frustrated residents that every road is assessed, but not necessarily plowed.
He says one area that can be improved is how the plan has been communicated to the public, saying it hasn’t been perfect because the conditions have been changing so rapidly.
