Wednesday roads see multiple crashes, including two fatal

A Calgary man is dead after a collision between a pickup truck and semi-trailer on the QE2 highway.
RCMP say the truck lost control and veered across the southbound lanes, striking the semi north of Airdrie.
The crash is one of several that Mounties have been called to Wednesday, following the first snowfall in several weeks.
Cpl. Darrin Turnbull said road conditions are tricky, where only one area will be slippery, while just a few kilometres down the road, there’s ice.
“We’re still running into those situations where the temperature changing and just the slight, light amount of snow is really making for some challenging driving conditions,” he said.
Traffic through the accident scene was down to one lane in each direction while RCMP investigated, but fully re-opened around 2:00 p.m.
It comes after another fatal crash just east of Chestermere Wednesday morning, where driver error is believed to be the cause.
Along with the fatal crashes outside the city, a rather serious one in the southwest.
Police started getting calls around 2:15 p.m. about the collision at 69th St. and Old Banff Coach Road.
Det. Dale Seddon said it was between a Mercedes SUV and a light standard.
“One of the occupants is listed at this point in time as being in serious, life-threatening condition and the other occupant in serious condition, but not life-threatening,” Seddon said.
