A new survey suggests not getting your hopes up that your significant other is going to shower you with expensive gifts.

“Ninety percent of respondents are going to spend less than $100 this Valentine’s Day and 70-per-cent are going to spend $50 or less which was kinda of surprising,” says Trembath.
As for what people are buying, it’s the usual chocolates and flowers. That makes Barry Matthews at Red Rose Florist happy even though the make-up of bouquets hasn’t changed.
“What’s very popular this year are roses and lots of orchids and exotic flowers such as gerbera daisies,” explains Matthews.
And not surprising an overwhelming majority of Canadians, 79-per cent, feel Valentine’s Day is a made up celebration where they are being pressured to come through with at least a gift and a card.
