The man accused in the 2012 death of a peace officer in Priddis, will appear in court Friday.
A psychiatrist said last month, more time was needed to determine whether Trevor Kloschinksy can be found criminally responsible for first degree murder.
Rod Lazenby, also a retired mountie, was killed after he went to the rural home where Kloschinsky was staying to follow up on a dog complaint.
The defense is looking for proof that Kloschinsky was suffering from mental illness when Lazenby was killed.
