High River woman dies of gunshot wounds; man charged with murder

A woman is dead from gunshot wounds and a man has been charged with murder after police were called to a High River home twice in the same evening.

High River RCMP say officers were called to a home on 112 Street E around 5:55 p.m. Tuesday after a man “made allegations” about a woman.

The responding officers learned the allegations that were made were unfounded, according to police.

Later that same evening, around 9:25 p.m., police were again called to the same home for reports of a disturbance.

When officers arrived they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds and took a man into custody. Mounties say there is no ongoing risk to the public.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. She has since been identified as 36-year-old High River resident Cayla Bleeker.

RCMP say 36-year-old Jarrett Stobbe has been charged with second-degree murder. The suspect remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in an Okotoks court on Friday.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation.
