Paddleboarder rescued during during weekend safety patrols at Ghost Lake: RCMP

Mounties pulled a struggling paddleboarder from Ghost Lake on Saturday during a day of safety patrols.
Cochrane RCMP say officers were out on the lake west of Calgary to monitor activity and speak with boaters and paddleboarders.
During the patrol, a paddleboarder fell into the cold water and was unable to stay afloat. Officers reached the person quickly and brought them to safety, according to RCMP.
Mounties say paddleboarding continues to grow in popularity, but are reminding those who take part to follow basic safety rules.
Paddleboarders are required to carry a personal flotation device and a sound‑signalling device, like a whistle. Not having the required equipment can lead to a $250 fine and being removed from the water.
On Saturday, Officers directed 11 paddleboarders to leave the lake until they returned with the proper safety gear.
During the patrols, RCMP say officers interacted with 17 vessels carrying 114 people, one personal watercraft, and spoke with multiple paddleboarders. Police also responded to a complaint at the boat launch.
