Canada fished the Olympic Games in Sochi with 25 medals Sunday and a closing ceremony with bobsledders Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse carrying the Canadian flag.
Five of those medals won were among the 36 up for grabs in new events in Sochi.
Canada finished fourth in overall medal standings and third in the gold medal count with ten.
The most Canadian medals were won by the skiers with freestylers taking home six of the first nine.
Among the first memory making moments was the gold and silver win in moguls and the hand in hand podium stance by Montreal sisters Justine, and Chloe Dufour-Lapointe.
A lot of love came from fans for Patrick Chan on Valentine’s Day when the long program figure skater fell just short of winning Canada’s first ever gold in men’s figure skating.
Social media exploded with support after Chan apologized once on camera and once on Twitter for his silver medal finish.
The touching silver medal stories continued when Denny Morrison came in second place in the men’s one-thousand metre speed skating event after his teammate and Calgary native Gilmore Junio gave up his spot in the race.
Team Canada was looking for its 13th medal on Day 13 of the games and that came to pass with Winnipeg’s Jenifer Jones and the woman’s curling team taking gold.
That momentum continued with a win by Hayley Wickenheiser and the women’s hockey team in a nail-biter comeback from a 2-0 deficit and then tying the game with a minute left before winning it 3-2 in overtime.
The female athletes continued to make headlines in Sochi as the first ever women’s slopestyle event saw Canadian freestylers Dara Howell and Kim Lamarre win the gold and bronze.
Looking back on day four, it was a last chance to see freestyle skier Alexandre Bilodeau compete on the Olympic circuit before his announced retirement.
Bilodeau successfully defended his gold from Vancouver while teammate Mikhail Kingsbury won the silver.
