Calgary to Edmonton high speed rail line up for debate

As Alberta continues to grow in population, how people get around the province is being taken into consideration.

A high speed rail line, linking Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton, is up for discussion this week.

Public input meetings are being held in the cities to examine the positives and negatives of a project estimated to cost between five and seven billion dollars.

Pat Stier, Wildrose transportation critic, cautions the bullet train idea is still far from becoming a reality.

“It may be worthwhile at some point of time, but it doesn’t look like it’s something for the immediate future,” says Stier.

The first public meeting about high speed rail is being held in Calgary Monday night, at the Coast Plaza Hotel in the northeast.
