More lively spring wildlife requires caution

The snow is melting, the birds are singing and the warmer weather means local wildlife is more active too.
Tom Biglin, district Fish and Wildlife officer, tells 660News that includes coyotes who are raising their young.
“I mean they’re going to be protective of their denning sites and they’re going to be protected by their young when they’re born, so that’s no different then a moose or a bear or any animal,” said Biglin.
Anyone out walking, running or biking, and especially those with dogs, are urged to be extra cautious.
“If you’re out there in areas that could have coyotes in them, bear spray is always something that you might want to consider taking with you or one of those aerosol noise makers. Most of the time animals don’t like loud noises, so give them a blast of that noise,” said Biglin.
He said wearing ear buds isn’t a great idea, because predators like cougars and bears may perceive someone jogging or riding a bike as a prey animal because it’s running away from them.
He said their instinct is to give chase and it is best to be able to hear them coming.
