Scientists are working on a groundbreaking handheld testing kit that could detect cancer, HIV and a host of other diseases in just minutes.
The method involves taking smaller patient samples than the ones currently used, and testing them on a small chip plugged into an iPhone.
The British researchers behind the new technology are comparing it to the tricorder used to remotely scan patients in Star Trek, and say it could slash costs and waiting times.
Clinical trials will be carried out at the Department of Infection and Immunity at Imperial College Healthcare NHS.
