The day after declaring a measles outbreak in much of the province, Alberta Health Services has announced it’s opening even more vaccination clinics in the city.
This announcement, as parents and children rushed to two clinics in Calgary Wednesday afternoon.
The line-up was long at the Northgate Immunization Clinic on 36th Street Northeast.
The word “outbreak” was alarming for many Calgary parents who say recent measles cases already put the issue at the top of their minds.
Lisa is a first time mother for baby Ethan; she’s up-to-date with her immunizations and she wants her son to be too.
“There’s been cases in kids less than one, so that’s why we didn’t want to wait until his one-year vaccinations. I just said, okay, if they’re doing it, we’ll just get it done,” she said. “We’ve had two friends that have been potentially exposed to the measles cases that have been going around town. When we saw the outbreak declared, we got more concerned, and we wanted to make sure that we came out today.”
Erin has a toddler and an infant, and says she’s not a fan of those who don’t get immunized.
“I think it’s dangerous. Especially for children that can become very ill or there could be death. It could be tragic,” she said.
Michelle told 660News, it Is important for her whole family’s peace of mind to attend the clinic right away.
“You don’t want the disease spreading to other people, so I think it’s important for everybody to do that,” she said.
