A man is in hospital with serious and potentially life threatening injuries after his single-engine two-seat plane went down Thursday afternoon west of Calgary.
EMS crews arrived near the Calaway Park entrance at around 3 p.m.
Dax Huba with the Rockyview Fire Department tells 660News, weather wasn’t a factor in the crash.
“I think this was just a mechanical problem that the pilot had experienced,” Huba said. “Until we have a further investigation, we won’t know. We are just happy a fire wasn’t started.”
The 39-year-old man, who is a Calaway Park employee, was the only person in aboard and no one on the ground was hurt.
The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash with the assistance of the RCMP. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact authorities (Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000).
