Numerous firearms and nearly one million dollars worth of drugs are now in police custody after a big takedown in Calgary by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT).
After a six month investigation, Huy Nguyen, 26, Duy Dao, 24, and Jonathon Chieh, 23 were arrested on April 28 and are now facing a total of 64 drug and weapons related charges.
Along with the substances; including cocaine, marijuana and MDMA, police seized a fully automatic AK-47 assault rifle as well as a loaded handgun and over $225,000 in cash.
115 kilograms of Phenacetin was also discovered worth $230,000, the largest seizure of its kind in the history of ALERT.
Police say the suspects all moved to Calgary recently from the Vancouver area with the intent of getting a foothold in Calgary’s drug market.
