No excuses for Grade 6 students in Calgary to have a lazy summer.
Each one of them has been given a free YMCA membership, thanks to a partnership program between the YMCA and the Calgary Flames Foundation for Life.
The organization’s Vice-President of Children and Youth Tanis Cochrane tells 660News, it’s all about helping kids make good life choices.
She says, “There’s lots of research, I think that we’re all aware of that children are not as physically active as we’d like them to be; that there’s lots of research around the benefits to learning and education and mental wellness in terms of physical activity.”
If you’re thinking to yourself that’s a lot of kids, it is, but Cochrane adds even though it would be great, it’s unlikely everyone will take advantage of the opportunity.
