4 people hurt after serious overnight crash in the SE

Four people are in hospital after a crash at the intersection of 52nd Street and 61st Avenue in the southeast.

Acting Battalion Chief John Cherweniuk tells 660News two men in the 20’s were thrown from a BMW convertible.

Police say the BMW ran a red light at 52nd Street and drove directly into the path of a Honda Odyssey, hitting the driver’s side of the car.

Speed appears to have been a factor in the collision but investigators say alcohol does not appear to have been a factor.

“Crews assisted the two patients lying on the ground while simultaneously extricating the other two from the minivan who were both conscious and breathing at the time.” explained Cherweniuk.

One of the men thrown from the convertible was reported to be in life-threatening condition, however their condition has been upgraded by EMS.

The other is believed to be stable.

The pair in the minivan, a man and a woman in their 50’s was also transported to hospital but are believed to be in stable condition.
