There haven’t been any record high temperatures in Calgary this week but it is a different story when it comes to electricity usage.
The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) reports the province saw a peak in the 4 p.m. hour Wednesday of 10,141 megawatts.
That beats the previous record of 10,063 megawatts set on July 2nd, 2013.
AESO spokesperson Angela Anderson said even though temperatures will climb again this weekend, the electricity grid should be fine.
“A lot of commercial and industrial load goes off on the weekend so we typically see demand that is lower than it is during the week anyway,” said Anderson. “As it’s looking right now, it’s looking really good.”
She said demand for electricity in the province increases every year.
