Family makes plea for the return of missing Calgary woman

With members of her family standing behind her, Erin Madill held up pictures of her young sister Shannon, asking her to come home.

“This is my sister, she’s a lovely outgoing girl and Shannon if you see this, please you’re not in trouble, we all love and we miss you so much, we don’t need to know where you are, we just want to know that you’re safe,” Erin said, sending a direct message to her 25-year-old sister.

Shannon Madill (Burgess) was last seen around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 27 at her home in the 1900 block of Spiller Road S.E.

Her family became concerned when she didn’t show up as scheduled on Sunday and they reported her missing on Monday.

At this point, there are no indications of foul play despite it being completely out of character for her to go out of contact with her family.

“My sister is a very outgoing, very social girl, she very much enjoys spending time with friends, even the previous weekend when she was in Edmonton, there are so many people that have told us they were hanging out with her,” Erin said. “So it is unbelievably unlikely for her to disappear and not actually contact anybody.”

Shannon is described as Caucasian, 130 lbs., 5’6″, with red hair and green eyes.

She wears glasses and often travels to Edmonton to work as a stand-up comedian and performance artist.

Police have been following up on leads and the whole family has been very cooperative, including the estranged husband who also appeared with family Friday at police headquarters.

Staff Sgt. Travis Baker wouldn’t get into specifics of the investigation, but did say many of her personal items including her cellphone and car were left at her home.

“We haven’t seen any activity online, electronically, if there was, we’d certainly be pursuing that, all avenues are being looked at, certainly credit cards and banking information is one of the priorities we look at,” he said. “All we want is that wherever she is, if she’s with somebody that they reach out to either us or the family.”

“She’s not in any trouble with us at all and if she decides that that’s what she wants, we’re happy to step down and back away, but we want to know where she is and that she’s safe.”

Erin said there haven’t been any indications of stalkers or odd incidents with her being a performer and the family is still hopeful she’ll be found safe.

“Or course, we’re all very optimistic that my sister will be returned to us as soon as possible and very safe, we’re going to stay optimistic as long as we possibly can,” she said.
