Wind warnings out for parts of SW Alberta

Expect a breezy time if you’re headed towards the southwest corner of the province.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for Cardston, Fort Macleod, Pincher Creek, Magrath, Crowsnest Pass, and Waterton Lakes National Park.

660 Meteorologist David Spence says winds could reach about 100 km/h.

“Wind that strong can be damaging to shingles, it can blow shingles off roofs, it can knock down tree branches, although there are no leaves on trees right now, so that’s less of a threat,” he said. “One of the biggest threats is to trucks driving along the north/south highways: they get hit by these strong crosswinds, and semis, particularly those with empty trailers, are vulnerable to being blown over.”

The wind should be strongest Thursday afternoon, then die-off overnight.
