Ottawa police arrest man after alleged threat at hotel

Ottawa police have arrested a male suspect in connection with an investigation at the Chimo Hotel.

Police evacuated the east-end hotel as a precaution early Wednesday to investigate what they called a “possible threat.”

Police said a threat was made by a “suspicious male” who had possibly checked in at the hotel, near Highway 417 and St. Laurent St.

The RCMP had been tracking the location of a Nova Scotia man, who is believed to have been staying at a hotel in Ottawa with chemical materials.

A hazardous material team was sent to the hotel to investigate the alleged threat. There were reports that hazardous chemicals were found in the hotel but police would not confirm those reports.

The man’s name hasn’t been released, and no injuries are reported. Ottawa police confirmed a vehicle located at the hotel is also part of the investigation.

The RCMP said the investigation is related to two other investigations in Nova Scotia.

Police closed all streets surrounding the hotel and are asking the public to avoid the area.

The Chimo Hotel website says it has 256 guest rooms.
